I hope its only a lifter for your sake, id hate it if I dumped money in then motor blew. Well I have done that but you get the point Good luck.
I agree on that. The shop I took it to before for inspection told me the block was probably screwed, but I wasn't so quick to agree and turns out they were wrong, so hopefully this will end the same way. However, the dyno shop didn't tell me it was 100% gone, but said they think it could be and wanted to let me decide what I wanted to do with it. That's partly why I posted here too, I know a lot of guys might be able to help me out here and save me a lot of money.

Only a "noise" coming from the engine would be accompanied by other things if something let go in the bottom end. Loss of oil pressure, loss of power (it is sitting on a dyno....check it), loss of compression. Hell I picked up a coat hanger last week laying in the road and it sounded like I blew her up. After I dug the stuff out of the flywheel it sure sounded better. I have a nice shiny new guard now too. lol. Look into it and let us know.

That's another good point. He didn't say anything about any leaks, loss of oil pressure or clanging noises. Basically, they don't want to damage anything more or do any work unless I approve, so they immediately took it off the dyno, ran it without the belt to make sure it wasn't anything with the accessories (since he noticed it cranked pretty slow when this happened). I believe he said it was doing fine until they went to adjust shifts... He turned it on and it cranked slow, then started making the screeching noise.

That doesn't make sense to me it cranked slow and started screeching. Did it start up or did it just continue to crank. Maybe the starter is bad, or maybe i missed something earlier in this thread.

could be a transmission pump with the screeching noise... I had a 4L60e do that to me on a conversion i did on a cruiser sounded like the motor was gonna pop but turned out if you listened real close it was the front of the tranny (i thought at first the flywheel or something was loose or about to go) pulled the pump out only to find it was toast.

I was told it cranked slower, started and ran but immediately was making a screech noise after it started.

I'll bring that up to them as well, thanks

A "screech" sould be simple or could be the rod bearings. If it is tod bearings, the oil pressure would drop a lil (5-10 psi).

I would pull the valve covers and intake and then look for problems.

Hopefully something stands out and you do not have to pull the engine.

Well it seems to be a main bearing that went out. I decided to save some dough for the moment and the shop is now rebuilding my block with forged internals and a 383 upgrade! No tranny yet, but I'm sure that will follow in the future. I thought my cam was a little small for a 383 but the guy told me it was actually more suited for a 383 than 350 and it would be about the same cost to go bigger, so I'm going for it. This shop is very reputable for building engines and has seen many LT/LS engines and built some very fast ones. So I'm feeling pretty good about the decision I made. I can't wait to get it back now! Thanks a lot for all the advice given so far.
