Unhappy Tragic Dyno...

So I FINALLY had my car in for the tune this week and everything was running great after they fixed my exhaust leak and made some other adjustments. Then the time came to tune it... Apparently it made it through a couple runs and they were down to setting the shift points and started it back up, only to hear a screeching noise coming from inside the block. Everything else was checked and it could only be one thing, the motor. So now I'm in the market for a newer, better, bulletproof block and transmission as well. I was looking forward to getting it back, but now I get nothing but a chance to get some new stuff

With over 97K on the block I wasn't expecting it to last long, but was hoping to have some time to save up for the new block/tranny. I guess this post is to just give an update and if anyone has a forged block or built tranny, maybe you could help me out.

Not sure exactly what it is yet, but definately something inside the block. And I'm getting the tranny because I might as well bulletproof it at all once, before I end up getting a new block and then having the tranny go out shortly after.

Dont fix it if it isnt broke...but its all about $$$...you will spend an easy 3-5k on another motor. Then another 2k at least on a built 60e...still want that tranny?

Yeah, the money is going to suck but I'll just have to let the car sit (as much as I hate to) until everything is squared away. I'm hoping I can find a used tranny for less 1K probably without a converter, but then I'll probably end up getting a new block from VRE or something, unless a better deal comes along.

It will be somewhat of a DD, and occasionally raced, hopefully hit the track sometimes if I get a chance. Are those automatics or manual? Can they handle a lot?

they are automatics, and they can handle quite a bit. A th400 is cheap, and easy to rebuild as well. However, you will need new crossmember for the trans, and a few other things as well. But, it is the way to go if you want it to be bullet proof

they are 3 speed automatics but no electronics like the 4l60e and if built right they can handle alot of abuse, good to put a trans brake into aswell

I'll let them know. I didn't actually hear it, they called me from the shop to let me know what happened. What exactly would be the problem with the lifter? If it turns out to be that, you might save me a lot of time and money.

Well the shop is closing up soon, and so far I was planning to have it towed by here tomorrow, but I think I'll have them tear off the intake at least and be sure about this. Man, if this turns out to be a lifter, you guys saved me a ****LOAD of cash and I'll be one happy camper. Anyone have anymore details on the lifter situation before I call the shop and let them know?

If there is one thing iv learned, its not to jump to conclusions on whats wrong. As for a th350 or th400, they are only 3 speeds, no OD. Also I do not think there is ANY after market Lt1 block, so your bullet proof block, will be a stocker.

I hope its only a lifter for your sake, id hate it if I dumped money in then motor blew. Well I have done that but you get the point Good luck.
