traction

I have a major problem with traction with my trans am. It is a 1993 with long tube headers, true dual exhaust, and a rebult transmission with a shift kit and a 2000 stall torque converter. I put brand new kuhmo ecsta supra tires on it and it still spins like there is no tommorrow. I think some et streets will fix it but I could use advice. Any suggestions?

what kind of drag radials do you have and do you have any suspension work done?

actually 2000 stall is just a tad higher than stock. i think the stock convertor is around 1700-1800.

well it is a essentially a stock converter but it will hold at a little above 2000 rpm before the tires break loose, that is why I say 2000 stall. So lower control arms and nittos? I heard nittos were good on the street and crappy at the track?

my stock convertor would only "foot brake" to 1000rpm before the tires loose, now with my vigilante 2800 it will only "foot brake" to 2000rpm.
"foot braking" is not an accurate way to measure stall speed.....

i have drag radials for street driving, and will be using ET streets for the track, to keep from burning my drag radials off.....
people cut pretty good times with DR around 1.7-1.8

for a 16" stock wheel (16x8) you have a choice
26"x10.5"x16"
26"x11.5"x16"

i went with the 11.5" version personally, but the 10.5" is plenty of rubber....

thanks QCKZ28. I will look into the et street and probably pick up two more stock wheels so I can use them for the track. ran a 14.16 at 96mph with 2.02 60-ft. stock. have not been back since headers and stuff, so my et should drop a good bit with et streets.

I used to have the same problem at the track with my 93 M6. I switched from running a best ever of 13.6@102 w/ a 1.98 60' (once)on 17x9.5 SS wheels to running a consistent 13.2s@103 with LOW 1.8 60's on a set of 16x8 stock 5 point wheels (not the salad shooters) I picked them up at the junkyard for 100 bucks for the pair and I run 26x10.5 ET streets. Those tires will hold against an auto no problem. You could go with 11.5s and would have better traction but they are heavier. With my motor setup I can't over power my 10.5s.To shed some light on just how good they are, a couple of friends of mine have turned 10s on my tires with mid 1.5s in the 60' in automatic LS1s . When I put the random tech torque arm and lower control arms that also helped A TON as with sub-frame connectors did too.
