TPIS AFR Heads Question

My brother has airflow heads that I believe are made for and definately sold by TPIS on his 95 Z28 with a TPIS ZZ9 cam. His car has the usual bolt-ons, headers, cai, catback, 52mm TB, 1.6 rockers. The car has a mail order tune and only dynoed around 340rwhp. Is the problem the heads(don't know if they need to be ported or not) or is the cam just that mild.
Thanks

Re: TPIS AFR Heads Question

I have those heads, but just recently took them off to send them to LE for a full port job, and a custom Bret cam. I think the problem lies in the small cam, and the mail order tune.

Hey thanks. Just curious, what kind of gains are you expecting from the porting.

Re: TPIS AFR Heads Question

being that the heads are on a 383, the results will be very significant.

Re: TPIS AFR Heads Question

Well, a mail order tune could be a good part of it. I don't think the cam is that bad, lots of people have that cam, and it works great. I had a Lt4 hotcam, TPIS mini-ram(which is similar to the LT1/LT4 intake) and had alot more power than that. Those heads flow like a LE2 head, i would think there is some hidden issues. Are the headers LT's or shorties, and is the car auto or manual?
