Torsional damper

Planning a heads and cam build up. I will maintain the stock cast crank. Research has revealed that the LT4 has it's crank rolled and notched to make it more stable in the upper RPMs (redline 6300). My question is: at what point (RPM) does the integrity of the stock crank become questionable?

Would an aftermarket damper make the stock crank more reliable?

Being budget minded, I would like to keep the stock crank and damper. But, better safe than sorry.

Just needing some security folks. I don't plan on spinnning the crank above 6300 rpm. My goal will be to have peak power at or below 6000 rpm.

I can't see spending the money unless you plan some sort of power adder in the future. For any kind of bolt-ons motor this would be near last on the list.

Thanks for the reply. I believe I will not worry unless I'm forced to spin at or above 6300 rpm to get the power I want. If I do, I'll invest in an aftermarket damper.

Michael, I think you should be ok at that rpm level with the stock unit. There seem to be a lot of people spinning higher than that with it. Of course, it never hurts to have better stuff. If everyone could afford it, I am sure they would have forged everything.

Just went and got the crank from the shop. I will be beginning the engine assy right away (but gonna take my time).
