Torque strap?
Torque strap?
My buddy has an 87 Buick GN. He has a torque strap on the engine connecting the engine to the frame. I can see its beneifits and while he has a slightly larger turbo I am not quite sure why he has it other than it looks cool. Would it even benefit our cars by using it and if so, at what HP and TQ levels would it be useful at? I haven't really never seen one on an F-body but just wanted to hear opinions on it.
Re: Torque strap?
If I remember correctly, the Buick GN came with motor mounts that could potentially tear and let the motor rock. The F-bodies have a captive clamshell type mount that cannot let completely go. The rubber can fail (more like wear out) but the motor is going to have to tear apart some pretty hefty steel to move anywhere. Soooo, on the f-body the torque strap is not necessary. I would be more concerned with the tranny mount than the motor mounts. I've gone through the stockers like they were tin-foil..

Yeah, I hear you on the tranny mount. I got a poly mount now and can live with the extra little vibration (a4), It sure beets having to change your drawers when the tranny mount lets go!!
