Torque specs on bottom end?
Torque specs on bottom end?
I am installing the bottom end as we speak, and needed the tq specs. I have no instructions as of now, so I am in desperate need of a how to, or at least tq specs and an order. My haynes manual had NOTHING. I THOUGHT haynes would have everything i need.
Re: Torque specs on bottom end?
Shoot me an email and I will send you a scan of the specification pages from my FSM (however, my Factory Service manual only covers 4-bolt main LT1s)

Re: Torque specs on bottom end?
I know the guy that assembled my engine used 3in1 oil on everything he assembled on the bottom end. Id say any type of lightweight oil would be good, make sure you prime the oil pump before you put the intake back on.

Clevitte makes specific bearing lube that I mix with white lithium to make it stick better and not run off as fast ALWAYS LUBE THE BEARINGS..... I fill the oil pump with my clevitte bearing lube/lithium grease mixture too.
Use lube on all bottom-end fasteners(threads and shoulders)
moly-graph on cam and lifters, rockers, pushrod ends. anywhere there are moving parts where oil willl usually be needs to be lubed on a fresh motor.
Re: Torque specs on bottom end?
the reason I did not use engine assembly lube is because the motor will not run for a while, and I didnt want dust getting in there while the install process was taking place. the engine is now fully wrapped and waiting for money to put it completely together. I am hoping this is not a bad idea ? If it is please tell me, so I can take it apart and re-install everything w/ lube right before installation. I was of course planning on priming the oil pump many many times before start up, and coating just about everything in the motor w/ oil as well.
thanks again
thanks again

without lube, it will start dry, which is bad for evrything, esp. bearings and the cam
Re: Torque specs on bottom end?
it will not start dry if I pour oil EVERYwhere will it? I will take it all apart and redo this crap if I have to... but really do not want to... shoebox? I was told this wouldn't be a problem when I was doing it... now I am not so sure. A thick layer of oil everywhere and priming the oil pump is not enuff?
Re: Torque specs on bottom end?
and btw, to you who said dont worry about dust, you do not know Lubbock, TX. If you clean your car and leave it out for 2 hrs, it already has a layer of dust on it. I am doing this in my garage and the car has a good 1" thick layer of dust on the top of it. there is NO WAY IN HELL to assemble this w/ any type of lube and keep it clean of dust on the bearings. that was my main reason for not using lube.
ALSO- the cam is NOT IN THE MOTOR YET. I am talking bottom end ONLY is assembled so far. The cam will go in w/ a LOT of assembly lube much closer to the time the engine will fire.
