Torque specs?
Torque specs?
I have an oil leak on the front bottom of the LT1. right beneath the crank pulley. i'm guessing it's the timing cover gasket. i bought a felpro gasket set at autozone. it came with 2 O rings, a timing cover seal, 2 water pump to block gaskets, timing cover gasket, distributor driveshaft seal, and a water pump bearing seal. if i replace all of this stuff, does anyone know the torque specs for putting the cover and stuff back on? or any crafty little tips or info? thanks
Re: Torque specs?
The crappy thing is that you have to drop the oil pan down in order to replace the timing cover gasket. The timing cover has a gasket between it and the block, but at the bottom of the cover you'll see that it fits into the front of the oil pan gasket.
If I were you I'd try to pinpoint the leak before just replacing stuff, because it's kind of a bitch to drop the pan, change all the seals in the cover and get it back on without messing anything up. You have a waterpump drive seal, an opti seal and a crank seal in that cover, and in my opinion it would be more likely for one of those to leak than the timing cover gasket. All of these seals can be replaced without removing the cover.
