Torque Converter Shims

Guys,

I have a little too much of a gap in between my torque converter and my flexplate. The gap is at a 1/4" and I would like it to be around 3/16"

Does anyone know where you can get the shims that will go inbetween the torque converter and the flexplate? I was thinking about maybe just using body shims? I'm not sure if they make shims specifically for this application...

Thanks for any help,

Mike

I have never heard of anyone having to use shims. Anyhow, if I was looking for something to space it, I'd just go to home depot or lowes or something and get some washers.

Ideal clearance is .090 - .125, If more you will need to get "machined" washers. You will need 3 washers exactly the same in thickness to achieve this, no more than .001 variation among them. The purpose of this is to get "maximum" tooth (rotor) contact on the torque converter hub for distributing the load. This will give the best chance at a long rotor life, less wear, and less metal in the fluid. Less than the above stated clearance can cause front pump problems (transmission failure), or you can "wipe out" the thrust bearing in the motor. Either is disasterous.
