Is torque arm broken?......

How do I know it is? How do I know if its just the bushing? How can I differentiate between a torque arm mount and a transmission mount being broken? If one is broke, does that generally mean that the other is broken?

Well if you ever remove the torque arm bushing to replace it, you will see why they don't break. The trans mount on the other hand will always break particularly if you are still using the cheap rubber OEM mount. To check it, push up on the transmission tail shaft and look at the rubber pad it sits on. You will see it develope a large gap in the middle of the rubber. It can cause a thumping sound when first taking off from standing still. Best to replace it with a Eurothane mount. For that matter, it's a good idea to replace all the rubber bushings in the suspension with Eurothane.

don't the urethane mounts increase the driveline noise? ie: you can hear it inside the car.

Kurt here is a photo (courtesy of shoebox) of the three types of transmission mounts. The bottom part is metal and if you were turn it 90 degrees you would see two bolt holes, one on each side. I was looking for a photo showing the mount in the car but was unsuccessful. I might change mine tomorrow night and will take photo's when I do. I will send the photo's to shoebox, if he would like, and he can add them to his excellent resource webpage.
I will start the rumor "shoebox for Man of the Year".
