top end put together help

hey guys, im putting my top end back together this weekend after the HG blew. alyway, i was just wondering how to go about doing this the right way. I took it apart no problem, but im just wondering do i need to do anything special to each part when refitting it. do i need to clean anything special while the engine is apart? just stupid stuff that will make this car start and run perfectly without disassembly again. thanks for the responses in advance guys.
ps: sorry for taking up your time with such a stupid question, i really wanna make sure i do this right.

I suggest that you pick up a Haynes, Chiltons, or GM service manual (if you haven't already). Unfortunately the internet can't hold your hand the entire way as basic mechanical knowledge is paramount in such an instance.

Having said that, if you have any questions in particular, we can help you out.

My biggest piece of advice is cleanliness. Cleanliness is next to godliness, and this couldn't be more true when working with exposed engine components.

1) i have a chiltons manual.
2) the part under the I-Manifold the whole area where the lifters are and everything, is that supposed to have grease or oil in it and be all black, or should that be cleaned?? the rest is easy i hope. i should be able to set my lash and everything just fine. Also i was wondering WHICH valve springs and rockers i should get to compliment the compcams 503. thanks, also how do i tell which size my lifters are? ex. 3/8

I think you are referring to the rocker studs. If they are still stock, they are 3/8. The best way to really tell is to put a set of calipers on them. I have the Crane10308 springs with my CC503 cam. Some like the pac beehives but I already had these and they work just fine. Also, get a good 1.6 full roller rocker in a NSA (non self aligning) with a set of guide plates and hardened pushrods.

For working on the LT1, this bears Chiltons or Haynes:

Lol, I think he meant "beats" not "bears." And he is absolutely right, the book is very informative.
