when you say "top end", are you reffering to the motor, or speed of the car??

if you're talking about the motor, well, i think it's ok for a stock car. it's got descent heads, an "ok" cam, and a state-of-the art (for its time) intake design.

as for the speed top end, it's definately better than the previous range of 3rd gen 5.7s, but it's no LS1, which is what most people compare it to nowadays.

lastly, the govenor on these cars came on vehicles that did not have Z rated tires and it is controlled by the PCM. that limit is about 120. BUT, even the govern'd cars can still have the 150 speedo. the speedo has nothing to do with the limiter.

ive been told by gm reps thr lt1 is balenced to 8000 i wouldnt take that chance persanally id stay around 6300 thats where my limit is set i know that wasnt exactly your question
as far as speed goes i have no limiter on speed only on rpm
so with 2.23 gears and 6300 you do the math
have done it once thout i blew the motor when i hit the rev limit
if you didnt know everyone i talked to said their car tach is about 300 to 400 rpm high

the a4 could have 2.73 or 3.23
the m6 were 3.42 not shure if they had an option
the quickest way ive been told is if your car has the 1st gear selector its 3.23 if you can only shift to 2nd you have 2.73 when you pull the shifter down does it have a one or does it just go to 2nd

A4 = 2.73's (standard gearset) or 3.23's (performance rear axle, included tranny cooler, 3" aluminum driveshaft, and 3.23 gearset)

M6 = 3.42 gearset standard, no other options.

FYI...
93 Z28 with manual 6-speed top end is 155 in 5th, redline 5800rpm.
In 6th, it only hits 150 due to overdrive.

Every auto has a cooler in the radiator. No auxillary tranny coolers were offered. Only the 1LE LT1's came with aluminum driveshafts.

Yeah...Rob is right. I bet you're thinking of the oil cooler that not all cars had.
