I was just wondering if there are any special tools needed to do the optispark swap.

Re: Tools for optispark instal???

are you swaping a complete opti(is it a complete unit, or do you have to assemble)? if you need to assemble, you need a E4 deepwell inverted torx socket

you might need a 3-jaw puller to get the balancer off the hub(if it is rusted on), other then that, basic hand tools

A puller for the balancer and something to scrape off the WP gaskets are the only things I remember using besides the usual hand tools.

I did one mine in under an hour(although it IS in a K5 Blazer...), but give yourself 4, just to be safe, especially since it is your first time(isn't your first time supposed to be quickest?????LOL)

the only E4 deepwell I have seen that works is the Snap-On one, there are others I'm sure, but the Snap-On one is necked down the whole length, so it fits in the little holes in the cap

If you can't find the inverted Torx socket, the torx screws on the top the the stock TB mate with the opti torx screws. You can remove one from the TB, gab the side of the head with vice grips for a home made tool.

The hub puller if it hasn't been pulled and a torx bit like has been said. If you want to keep life a little easier, go buy some bolts that will thread in and use a small nut on the backside to keep it on there. I did it with mine and it saves havin to buy a stupid socket for only one reason of havin to take out other parts to make the process complete.

p.s.- I hope you didn't buy an autozone opti, I did and am on my 4th one so far. It has become a annual event for me. (Glad I got the lifetime warranty)
