Took out MAF Screen, now smoking?

Hey guys
I took out my MAF screen and when I was driving home right after, my buddy was following me and said that when I would get on it, he could see smoke, but it wasnt really white and it wasnt dark like oil. Just exhaust. I have a recently gutted cat (two-three weeks ago) with a loudmouth exhaust. Those are my only mods besides a K&N drop in filter? Any ideas?

My T/a Does It Too. And My Screen Is Removed And Cat Removed. Only Thing I Could Figure Out Is That It Is Running Rich And Creating The Smoke

Normal if you dont have a cat for some smoke out the exhaust.

Ok... lil relief here then.

Do you guys have problems with your rear bumper getting what looks like afterburner marks on it?

The after burner look is from not having cats, well my car and a friends is like that anyway.

I've heard that removing the screen can make the car run a little rich sometimes, so thats probably what happens with the smoke

I pulled the screen out of my MAF sensor and had no smoke, gutted my cat about a month later, and it started smoking when you get on it hard, and i also have the "after burner" marks...Im thinking about putting a high flow cat back on the car to see if it fixes both problems, i noticed zero gain from the gutted cat I like the way the car sounded better with the cat anyways.

I noticed about a 3mpg drop on the highway with a descreened MAF, and every once in a while a back fire. Is this normal?

Re: Took out MAF Screen, now smoking?

Mine did the same thing until I got it tuned from PCM 4 less. I would have to assume that the tune(like most tunes), leans out the AF ratio, advances timing a little and so on. I did tell Bryan Herter in the order sheet that my MAF was stock but de-screened. It stopped smoking immediatly after I plugged the new ECM in. I have a gutted cat and liked the way it sounded with the cat also, go figure.......
