Took my opti apart
Took my opti apart
First when i pulled it out of the car both the orings were missing off the shaft also the conector on the wire harness was all broke. Then i took aprts the opti the cap and rotor was corroded bad alot of build up and green. So i got a ac delco cap and roter kit. Hopefully that will fix the problem. he problem was misfiring and just before it die it was running on only a coulpe of cyclinders then never started again. Also what is the best way to bleed your cooling system without getting coolant on your opti.
Re: Took my opti apart
To bleed the cooling system w/o getting it on your opti is to get a piece of cardboard or plastic preferrably and place it under tho gooseneck. I use a custom cut funnel with the long tube ($.99 at walmart). Right down to the drain pan. it gets most of it, and for the rest, just put a rag under the funnel.
BTW, FYI, if you're wandering about the little torx screw for the rotor button...T-4. Auto zone sells the tamper-proof set that has one in it.

Re: Took my opti apart
I personally wouldn't waste my time doing a cap and rotor on an opti. If the cap and rotor are corroded, chances are the rest of it is. I would replace the whole thing with an AC Delco replacement unit.
If it were an easy swap, I'd think differently.

Re: Took my opti apart
The rest of the assembly was fairly clean jut the contact points and rotor were bad. I just had to get what was instock car needs to be running by saturday morning or i'm screwed. I'll lose my job. Plus i only have enough money to do this. So i hope this aleast get me through a month so i can buy a a complete new unit. Thanks for the tip on bleeding coolant.
