Tired Valve springs robbing HP?

I've been watching on Nascar tech how they keep talking about the valve train with the one engine rule and they keep changing are the springs to keep the HP up. Sounds right for an engine running in the 9k range.

Question is with 85k on the clock, one track visit and driven like a NORMAL car what is the potential loss??

I do have 1.6 golds on a stock cam for now and future plans call for a heads/cam but six mos away. Can it wait or will the difference in HP be worth the work now?

Lastly there was a page I saw a while back that showed how to remove the springs, with tools needed as well as how to rotate the crank so that every piston is on top starting with TDC.

Thx

I would do it just for good messure. The 1.6 RR`s probly bring those stock springs close to coil bind.I sure would hate to hear that you sucked a valve.

I noticed valve float after 50K miles above 5000 rpm.

After the springs the car pulled hard to the redline.

Not sure if you"ll pick up any HP, I didn't, but I had valve float around 5500 RPMs and droped in a set of GMPP 1.6 rockers and a set of LT4 springs and it fixed it right up. Didn't pick up any tie at the track, but no more valve float

I don't mean to sound stupid or anything, but how do you tell if you have valve float?

A flutter (loud tapping) at high RPMs was my give away, around 5500-5600 RPMs right before the 2-3 shift. It wasn't red lineing so I figured it was valve float. I drop the shift points at one time and it went away. So them I got the springs and rockers and fixed the problem. The only time my car would do it was during WOT runs at the track. If you don't race you'll probibly never notice it.

The truth is my car doesn't see WOT maybe once a month if that. Its not that I don't like the WOT feeling there is just very few times that I'm not in traffic or without my daughter. Besides damn gas is now 1.90- 2.00 range here.

Point is yeah I wouldn't notice flave float. Can it be done with the car at idle with out a load? in other words rev it to 5k to listen for float?

What spring compresser should I get? I am set on the LT4s till I get the cam.

Thx

No. Like I said the ONLY time I ever noticed it was when I was running at the track. If you don't race the car or run at high RPMs I wouldn't waste the time doing a valve spring change. Just my .02.
