tips for passing inspection
need to try passing state inspection and i have the accessories in my sig. I just serviced the whole ignition system (plugs, wires, cap roter, icm) and changed my fuel filter, oil etc. I do have a high flow cat as well. I'm worried about passing emissions.. is there any additive or something that i can put in my fuel?
yeah if they are long tubes and they have visual inspection it will fail regardless because you moved the cat and it is suppose to stay in the stock location. if they dont have visual then i dont see why it wouldnt pass but put some seafoam in it and if the oil is dirty change in
They make some stuff called HEAT that will help. I have failed twice and added a bottle to 1/2 a tank and ran it down to 1/4 and passed. Depends on what made it fail though. Make sure you drive it on the freeway and get it good and hot and try not to sit in line to long. I did a few wot runs to clean it out real good.
Im sorry i didn't specify. They are longtubes but the O2's are hooked up and working properly. Well i guess ill just see what happens tomorrow. If I don't pass for something emissions related then i'll try that heat stuff.
The only thing that would concern me is first, the location of the cat may be back far enough where it will not heat up as well and be as efficient. Also, in regards to the cat, being a high flow unit may impact how it reduces emissions as well.
yea well after they raped my car yesterday at DMV.. it failed. Suprisingly it somehow passed the visual inspection. They actually put it on a lift (didn't even know they had one) and it all checked out. The only thing it failed for was emissions, which i figured just by the smell of the exhaust. I'm not sure how to decifer this information and how to go about trying to correct it to pass.
Here is what is failed for:
Gas : Standard : Reading : Result
NOx : 879 : 1940 : FAIL
HC : 117 : 149 : FAIL
CO% : 0.65 : 0.68 : FAIL
CO2% : NA : 11.0
O2% : NA : 4.8
everything else on the car passed. These are the only things that failed, and it doesn't give me any other kind of explanation except for whats there.

How long did you drive the car before taking it there? You could try taking it for a very long trip in hopes of really heating up the cat. Also, I don't think you specified whether your headers had the AIR and EGR systems intact?
Sorry, no AIR or EGR systems intact. I drove the car for about an hour before getting there then sat in the line with the car running for another 30min and that didn't help. Do you think those numbers are normal for emissions since The bolt-ons I have an longtubes, y pipe etc? Or could it be a different problem?
Like i said the car has been completely serviced in the past 1000-2000 miles so everything is new, fuel filter, plugs, wires, opti, O2's, oil. I even ran a couple bottles of the STP octane boost through that supposedly cleans your injectors.

There is a additive that can put into your fuel called methanal hydrate or methal alcohol. All that it pretty much is, is gas line anti freeze. My dad uses it all the time on our vehicles. What I guess it does is burns hotter than gas, which cleans out the cats. I would try and give that a try. But its up to you, my car, see my sig, i'm hoping that its going to pass emissions aswell. I still have my air pump egr, which i think you should put back on. Hopefully it all goes well for you. Greg
Without the EGR intact, you most likely will not pass for NOx levels. With the cat being away from its factory location and being a high flow cat on top of that, that is going to make things challenging as well.
