timing set

I have an 84 Silverado with an LT1 (not sure of the year but has vented opti) and I am changing the cam to an LT4 hotcam but since I was there was going to change the timing set also. I thought since the LT4 Extreme duty set is $250+ that I might change to an electric water pump and put on a standard double roller timing set for about the same price. What I'm wondering is to those that have done this, what is a good timing set to get?

And I think I read somewhere about plugging a hole in it?

What's wrong with something like the Summit SUM-G6601? Half the price of the cloyes piece. I've always had good luck with "Summit" branded parts.

Summit parts can break like everything else I guess, buddy of mine had a brand new 406, ran for 30 minutes when the summit cam snapped and destroyed 90% of the engine. Something to remember, most if not all summit parts of normally made by a larger company. So if you buy a summit CAI, it might be a K&N with summt on it.

Yep toss out the gear. You will have to freeze plug the timming cover.

ok now after reading a few posts about the EWP and overheating, I have changed my mind (since this a truck and I will be towing and hauling), and I have been getting together parts for my heads and just figured out Lloyd Elliot is right up the road, so now my plans have changed all together.

Now my question is do I need to change my whole timing set or can I just change the chain and if so does anyone have the chain #?

thanks

will these parts be ok for a head/cam lt1 or should I just bite the bullet and buy the LT4 Extreme Duty set for $250?

The stock set is used by lots of cam swappers.
