Timing question

Hey guys, so I just did my first cam swap and surprisingly got everything back together. My problem is when I tried to put the cam sprocket and chain back on it won't go on right. Either it will slide on to the cam dowel and not line up with the screw holes or vise versa. At a loss, tia for responses.

Just keep trying. You'll get it.

You may have to turn the cam just a little to get enough slack to get it on. After you get the the sprocket on the dowel, insert one bolt through the sprocket into the cam. Check the alignment of the dots and redo the procedure if needed.

Re: Timing question

thank you for the response sir and your instructions on your site, that's what I used to do the swap. Is it possible that I didn't put the cam at the right position? Could that cause the gear to not slide on right? If so do I have to take everything back apart to fix it?

Re: Timing question

Just spin the cam to where it needs to be (it should easily move with no valvetrain on top of it). The pin can be at the 3 or 9 o'clock position. Of course the crank dot must be at 12 o'clock.

Re: Timing question

Stick a screw driver through the cam sprocket and into the cam and gently pry up. This gives you a ton of play. I don't know of an easier way to get the chain on. Literally makes the job a piece of cake.
