Timing cover seems to be leaking

Hey all, I think my timing cover is leaking. I want to replace the gasket and while i am in there replace the timing chain as well. Has anyone done this? How hard is it? Do you have to remote the waterpump/opti? Thanks.

Might as well do a cam install while you are at it. You have to take the hub off which is the most PITA. Yes, the waterpump and opti will need to come off too.

What part of the cover is leaking? Mine is leaking slightly and I tried using RTV for a quick fix but to no avail. It is such a small leak though that I am leaving it b/c it is too much work. Maybe this winter I will fix it. Mine is leaking right in the middle of the bottom of the cover. Dont know how or why either.

You have to remove the water pump, opti, crank pulley and hub. Be sure it it actually the timing cover seal and not one of the round seals (more likely). If it is one of the round seals, you will not have to remove the timing cover and maybe not the hub if it is not the crank seal that is leaking. Clean things off and then see if you can tell where the leak is really coming from.

If you do the cam, definitely get a new chain. Otherwise, I think your chain should be fine how it is now. Like Shoebox said, if it is the circular part, then you can more than likely just drop the oil pan and do it. Im too lazy for that even though.
