Re: Timing Cover Seals

I would post a pic of the funnel but I don't know how. If you buy the blue funnel at oriellys, it's a flotool item 10701 cut off 1 & 3/4 inch off of the end it it will match perfectlly.

Re: Timing Cover Seals

You can do it either way, I just wanted to know which was best or easiest. I don't want to risk ripping the new seals. Only reason I can do it with my cover off is that I'm also replacing the cover gasket and oil pan gasket too. So it makes sense for me. But if you don't need to do the cover then don't since you might mess up the pan gasket you just did.

Re: Timing Cover Seals

you should be able to rent the tool at an auto parts store. use a matching size socket to install the seals with a hammer.

Re: Timing Cover Seals

You can use something to lightly tap them in, place a piece of wood or something behind the cover to stabilize it if you took it off. If you left it on it's almost the same, just put the wood in front against the seal and tap the wood to push the seal in flush with the cover. As for the WP shaft seal, you can use a socket to help thread it into the hole without shredding it.

Re: Timing Cover Seals

Fel Pro part number from o'reillys is TCS 45956. You don't need special tools except what is mentioned in this thread dealing with water pump seal. You can rent a puller at O;reillys, the kit number is 67007.

Re: Timing Cover Seals

If the puller doesn't come with a center bolt to push into the hub, you'll need a pretty tough grade 8 or else you'll bend it into an "s", frustrating.

Re: Timing Cover Seals

here is a good one I started work on the car a couple days ago pulled all the stuff mentioned above off. but it seems that the car is leaking oil from the intake as well this is going to be a bigger job than expected I was thinking to pull the engine for this any ideas on how i can get this dude out the top because the car is on ramps and already apart before i found the other leak.
