Timing Cover Question
Timing Cover Question
Hey guys
Are all the timing covers from 93 through 97 the same?
I ask because I am installing a cloyes double roller in my Z28 (97) and I am deathly afraid of it rubbing cause I know the havoc aluminum can cause on bearings.
I installed it and put the cover on and turned it over as instructed and it left no marks, but I did some light clearancing all over for peace of mind. Then I heard matt lost his motor from the crank gear rubbing so I pulled it off again to double check.
In his pics I think our covers are different.

Here is his. Notice the red circles. On my cover those parts are recessed, not flat. I do belive thats were his rubbed.
Anybody with a 97 or maybe 96 with a cloyes that can comment on this. Where should I clearance?
Its not rubbing now but I dont know how close it is and I want to take heat expansion (no matter how miniscule it may be into account.

93/94 have the small hole for the Opti drive (just big enough for the splined shaft), 95 has a large hole for the Opti drive (larger diameter to clear the dowel pin drive), 96/97 has the large hole for the Opti drive, plus the hole for the CKP sensor.
