Timing cover install, Drop pan??
a friend of mine just put in his new cam and is having a heck of a time getting his timing cover on. will he need to drop his pan all the way to get it on? Anyone have any suggestions? I'm thinking its the pan gasket at the bottom of the timing cover that is holding him up but not for sure....

Yah,
Im the guy that cant get it on. I messed with it forever. I cant get the rubber pan gasket to fit into t he bottom of the timing cover and slide it on the pins at the same time. Do you need to unbolt the pan. I dont even know if i can do that cuz my oil cooler lines are right under the pan bolts. And im almost sure that even if i get the oil cooler loose, it still wont slide out of the way enought to get to the bolts. Any suggestions?

You don't have to take the pan out, just drop the front down enough to get the timing cover in. Remove all but the last few rear bolts on each side of the pan, but loosen those you don't remove. Don't pull down on the pan or you migh bend it and end up with a leak.

Ok thanks guys. Ill try to get the pan bolts out but i dont know if the oil cooler lines will move off to the side far enough to get to the oil pan bolts. Hopefully my pan wont leak now. I know never knew that puttin on the timing cover was such a pain in that butt.
