Timing chain rubbing?
Timing chain rubbing?
Doing an engine swap and pulled the motor down and put new berings and oilpump in it while I was there. Motor already had a low millage timing set on it so I left it in place. Now the motor is all assembeled on the stand, and when I turn it over by hand a few times (no oil in pan yet) I can hear the timing chain rubbing on the cover. Is this normal when dry? Like all LT1s it had its share of slack, but never made this noise before. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Eric L
UPDATE: Pulled everything apart and spun motor with timing cover off. The noise im hearing is the timing chain "fluttering" (couldnt think of a better word) from the bottom gear around to the top gear. The noise is chain against gear while its fluttering. Slack is in my opinion excessive (quater inch or more) but well within factory specs. Thinkin im going to pickup a new timing chain and gear set and see how that goes. Eric L
