Timing chain qustion

I am rebuilding my 93 lt1. I have the hot cam kit and JE pistons.
Do I really need to put a heavy duty timeing set? or can i just get a new stock timing set ?
Has any one broke a chain on an lt1?
O yea i might be spaying 100 shot of NOS too?

If your going to keep the rpm below 6500 and you don't plan to road race then the stock timing set should be fine.

The hot cam kit is designed for 95 and up lt1's. If you use it on your car you will have to get a 95 timing chain, timing cover and opti. 93 and 94 use a different drive for the opti's than the 95 and up. You might be able to get away with pulling the dowel pin on your hot cam and installing one that is the same size as the stock cam. Check to make sure though. Don't try to remove it with vise grips though, you will ruin the cam. You need to take it to an engine shop for that.

He's is right and wrong, the cam has the long dowel pin but it can be pushed in so you can run it with your stock tining set.

You don't need all those things,if you compare your stock cam to the hot cam you will notice that the dowl pin on the hot cam is longer, all you have to do is push it in until it is the same length as the dowl pin on your stock cam and then it will work.

Its not a big deal at all, when I did the hotcam kit with my '94 all I did was compare the dowel lengths and tried to tap the pin in farther on the hotcam to match the stock one. I couldn't get it to go in so I just took a dremel and ground it down to correct length, no biggy. As far as a stock timing set, I have been running the hotcam kit for a year now with no troubles. I did buy a brand new stock SET, not just the chain though. Make sure you get the entire set. Anyhow, I've put about 45-50 runs down the track shifting at 6200-6300 without any trouble. Good luck!
