Yes I know, the same way comps makes the gm847 and gm846 cams. I've never heard of anyone breaking teeth on a double roller, but i've seen quite a few posts of the ED set getting torn to shreds... No thanks.

I was told this also and didn't have to grind mine at all. Maybe I got lucky but it fits perfectly.

Are you sure they were ED sets and how about the installation. Never had any trouble.

Alright...Alright. Should I return the GM ED set and get the double roller? Will I or will I not have to modify the timing cover if I go with the double roller

Re: Timing Chain Questions

I read all those threads you linked: makes me not want to get a LT4 ED set. It looks like the first guy had the back of the cam sprocket eaten up(the gear mating to the waterpump gear), and the teeth on the cam sprocket also eaten up. His seemed to be just a mismatched set, the fault of Cloyes who supplied the part to GM, from whom he bought it (he said Cloyes did replace it and say sorry, but the shredded metal was still in his engine). The second guy in the same thread had an electric water pump and the ED set, and he also learned that the metal he found on his drain plug was due to the waterpump gear to back of cam sprocket eating each other. The guy in the second post had the ED set and also had the waterpump gear and back of cam sprocket being torn up, but it looks like his was being torn up due to a faulty aftermarket waterpump. Apparently some people have no problems with the ED set. But some do. How common is it and why? Isn't this same set the one that was used on all the LT4 Corvettes? And from several places in this thread and those linked above, it looks like Cloyes makes the ED set for GM, so if you buy it through GM, you are getting the same product as if you bought it through another distributor like Summit. So it looks like if you buy an ED set from anyone, you might be taking a chance. From almost everything else I've heard though, Cloyes is a very dependable company; I wonder if it's just 1 in 1000 of the ED sets they made that were off or what. That might be the case since this is only two accounts of a bad ED set, and I think those are the only ones I've ever read of.
I wrote the above for myself (since I'm in the market for a stronger timing set) and everyone else. I should be a book reviewer.

Isn't it Crane that makes them?

Re: Timing Chain Questions

yeah shoebox its crane, my cam card is the same as crane and it has a crane part #. Crane is the only company that can do a custom from a billet like that comp cams and all the other cam manufactures get the billets from crane.
