Re: timing chain question

On the older cams that have the small tapered hole and short dowel pin (92-some 95's)...I believe you need the splined 10128349 for it to connect up and work.....the unsplined one (newer model you got) for the later years had the 10206039....the backside of the later opti design had no teeth (on or in) the dowel like the previous version.....it was instead driven from a longer cam dowel pin........hope this helps some

Re: timing chain question

Your purchased a timing set for 95-97 car w/ a vented opti.

You'll have to put on a different cam gear to make that work.

Re: timing chain question

You need the splined cam gear or your optispark is not going to work.

Re: timing chain question

The sliped gear was used on 92- early 94. Some 94 and 95-97 got the dowel pin version.

Re: timing chain question

You must used the splined gear to make your opti work. If not convert to a vented opti and get you the LT4 extreme duty chain.

Re: timing chain question

If you use the 94-97 gears and chain you can use the newer opti spark which costs less monet to replace than the earlier opti. The newer set up also enables you to used roller chain set ups costing less money and are stronger than link belt type chains.

If you are not changing out your cam then you will have to use what fits. If your changing your cam and have the money then change to the newer stuff. Cheaper to replace and better products available.

Re: timing chain question

So am I correct in saying that the 96s use the long cam dowel pin to drive the Opti?? What mods need to happen to the timing cover to use a double roller timing set??? Hope you don't mind me jumping in on your thread
