Timing Chain Heavy Duty ?

I hear stories of changing to a heavy duty timing chain ??

Can anyone tell me how to go about this and what parts are necessary ??

The heavy duty chain assy your talking about is GM part number 12370835. It includes the cam gear, chain, crank gear and the water pump drive gear. Don't bother with the water pump drive gear. Order the water pump drive assy GM 10219554. If your engine has some miles on it, the bearing is worn.

To do the job you should have a shop manual for reference. If for nothing else, you'll need the torque specs.

You need to remove the serpentine belt, water pump, distributor, dampener and hub. NOTE THE HUB IS NOT KEYED. MARK IT BEFORE YOU REMOVE IT.
And last remove the timing cover.

You will need a puller for the hub and another for the crank gear.

Always replace the seals and the gaskets. The water pump drive shaft seal is a B!@#$ to replace. Use the connector for the water pump to help seat it. Prelube the water pump drive bearing before install.
good luck
