Which Timing chain to Get
Which Timing chain to Get
I am doing a cam install very soon and I am trying to decide what Timing chain I need to get. IS the LT4 Extreme duty chain the best, is there any other ones, wheres the cheapest place to get them at. And finally are there any mods I have to do for the timing chain to work on my car.
Thanks for any help.

Honestly, you don't have much to choose from.
If you want to keep your mechanical water pump, you have exactly 2 choices; either another LT1 timing chain (which are known to stretch and I wouldn't suggest it). Option 2 is the LT4 Extreme Duty chain.....buy it from Jason Cromer, Dal Slaughbaugh, etc. as it will be REALLY expensive from just a local dealer (still will be around $200).
You didn't say what year your car is. If it is a 95-97 OR you do the 95 Opti conversion, toss in an electric waterpump, you can run a small block roller cam timing chain. Most folks end up just spending the few extra bucks and going to the real nice ones like I did (did the Opti conversion, CSI pump, and a Cloyes Double Roller timing chain). Combination motorsports is now offering something about the same as a Cloyes for a few bucks less (they say it has a stronger crank sprocket, but honestly, I don't think there is any sort of weakness in the Cloyes crank sprocket, or the Cloyes setup in general).

Yea I looked on another thread and they said that this jason Cromer guy got them a LT4 Extreme timing chain for like $189. Thats awsome, I beleive I am going to go with this timing chain. Thanks alot.
yeah, if u have a later style opti and an elec. H20 pump i would go with the cloyes double roller chain. it is only $75 and a great chain. it is part # 220-9-3145 from summit or jegs if u are interested. far cheaper than the LT4 extreme chain. love mine!!!!
