Timing chain gasket AND water pump gasket take a crap @ same time
So my water pump gasket and Timing chain gasket went out at the same time.
The timing chain cover flows out oil and the water pump gasket (passenger side, not weep hole) flows out coolant.
Crank hub is a pain in the butt to get off. I've been working on it for ~3 hours and its still not off.
Is this a normal LT1 problem? I plan on replacing WP gasket and Timing chain gasket and front seal....should I replace the opti and WP as well? Has ~180K miles, Opti was replaced at 100K and IDK about WP.
Thanks,
-Tim

Ive always been a fan of if it aint broke dont fix it. Im not sure but when you take the waterpump off to do the gasket see if you can see a part number or something on there to distinguish it by brand. As far as it being at the same time the only explanation that I can think of would be if the water pump was leaking just a little bit for a long period of time it could have eaten away at the timing cover gasket because antifreeze is corrosive. But if you can conclude that the water pump is stock you might want to replace it because if it is stock, there's probably alot of bearing wear and it would suck to have to do this all again in 10k miles
The search option is your friend.I agree with 96' Forumla WS6 in the antifreeze eating away at the timing cover gasket. Whatever the cause, you have to replace them. While you're down there, you might as well replace the water pump at least, opti is up to you. If you got the funds and don't mind, I say go for it. And make sure you use some decent sealant on those gaskets, I prefer 3M Super Weatherstrip and Gasket Adhesive.
