timing chain conversion
I have a 95 Lt1 with the vented opti. Does anyone know that if you have an electric water pump, can you replace the stock LT1 timing chain and gears with any small block 350 double roller timing chain? I was told if you plug the hole in the timing cover than you can. I was wanting to put on the double roller, but want to make sure that it will fit. Do you line up the same marks or did they change? Thanks,
Scott

The chain you want is the one for an '87+ small block Chevy with a roller cam. You have to install it straight up in an LT1 because of the Opti that is driven by the cam dowel. Some people have had to do minor clearancing of the timing cover, but only in about 20% of the cases, and them only a very small amount. I will be finding out soon...

Alright! I bought an Edelbrock 7801 timing chain set for a 87 up factory roller cam car. It bottoms out on the camshaft retainer plate. Does anyone have any idea which set works with the LT1? If you have part number, that would be great! Or ideas on how to get this to work!
Thanks,
Scott

94formulabz: Yes you are right, this should work for the 95-97 only. The 93-94 do have to change to the vented opti. But the problem that I have is I don't know which chain set to use (part number). Does anyone have an idea as to which one it is?
Thanks,
