Impala block?

Will the block from a b-body car swap into a f-body car? If so what years interchange. I'm not worried about the opti drive style or anything. I'm trying to find a block to use for my turbo 383 build.

There is only one LT1/LT4 block casting.

There are only two variants of the LT1 block, those with 2-bolt mains and those with 4-bolt. Both have the same casting number - 10125327.

Take a pair of dial calipers with you and measure the bore to make sure you have room to over-bore.

Make sure not accedentily buy an L99 (baby LT1) found in the Caprice - it will have only a 3.74" bore.

The Caprice sedan(civilian or police) was available with a 4.3l V8 that looks exactly like an LT1 so look behind the driver's side head for 5700 or 4300.

The Roadmaster, Impala, Caprice/Roadmaster wagons, Fleetwood all got the LT1 as the only option.

Thats the info I needed. My step dad owns a used car dealer ship and comes across alot of the b-body cars for little to nothing and some wrecked f-bodies. I know the difference between them but didn't know the production years on the b-body cars. Thanks for the help guys.

The 350ci LT1 block has "327" cast in the front of the block, at least 1" tall. The L99 has "4.3" cast in it.

I'm pretty sure the block I built my stroker with came out of a B-Body.

Depending upon exactly where you look the L99 has 327 cast into it too. I don't like to leave people wondering if they are looking at the right spot. Which is why I lean towards telling them to look behind the driver's side head 57 or 43 is pretty definitive.

My block came out of a wrecked caprice police car, it was a 5.7L LT1 w/ iron heads.

The L99 says 588 cast in the spot most people look for the 327 on an LT1 block. The "327s" carved into it are in other places. Still it leaves some room for confusion.

I wish I had taken detailed pictures before I scrapped that block, if I get my hands on another one I will document and post pictures.

On the L99 block I had I believe the 327 was cast into the belllhousing area behind the flywheel and behind the timing cover, but not in the usual area on the side of the block. Side of the block would be the place to check.
