Re: timing chain

Unless you're prepared to swap to the vented opti, you're stuck with the stock timing chain.
As for the hole in thetiming cover I welded mine.

Re: timing chain

These are your only choices for a 94 motor.

The Cloyes - CLO-9-9100
Lunati - LUN-93094
or the factory replacement.

The Cloyes and Lunati will state that the parts are for 92-93 only. I called them directly and they both said that they are a direct fit for the 94 motor. The reason that they do not include the 94 year is that some late model 94's came with the 95 setup.

You would think that they would say that it would fit some early 94's. But they don't.

Re: timing chain

If you are going to remove the water pump drive gear, you can use any timing chain for a factory roller cam motor. That is what I did. The chain I used was for an older roller cam 350 (like say a 1990 Z28). That was on my 96 where the opti is driven off of the camshaft dowl and the timing gear doesn't have anything to do with it. To plug the hole in the cover, try to find a "freeze plug" or the like to fit in there. I found one close and used silicone to seal it in there. It has been a few years and no leaks.

Using the cloyes 3145 timing set, this is discribed as timing set for factory roller small block.
