Timing chain
That would be a "noisy" gear drive.... However:
The water pump on the LT1 is driven by the timing gear on the camshaft. So, as such you cannot run tradtional small-block Chevy timing chains or gear drives unless you convert the stock water pump over to electric. And there probably would be some clearancing of the timing cover required.
