timing chain; which one?

im installing a cam in about two weeks. im wondering what timing chain i should go with. ive heard of the LT4 extreme duty, but its to expensive. also i see summit sales LUNATI chains for $107. and at the autozones and orielys around town they have some for $84, dont know what brand they are though.

what other options do i have, and what should i expect to pay.

The strongest chain made for our cars is the Cloyes true roller, it is also only $80, sounds great right? Well, it is, but you also have to buy an electric water pump ($150-$200) because it has no provision for our cam driven water pump. Even with the water pump, it will cost less than the LT4ED, and also be stronger.

According to your previous posts, you have a 1994?

If you have a 1993-1994, you cannot use an LT4 ED timing set, nor an $80 Cloyes UNLESS you upgrade to the 1995+ vented optispark and corresponding components (~$4oo - $5oo on top of the timing set). The opti drive systems were changed in 1995, and your car will not have a functioning ignition system without the correct timing set. Very few timing sets are made for the pre-'95 LT1.

You can either:

1) Stick with a stock LT1 replacement timing set.

2) Try the $110 1992-1994 Lunati from SummitRacing (p/n LUN-93094).

3) Get the $4oo Cloyes for the 1992-1994 LT1 from http://www.moreperformanceinc.com/timgchn.htm (p/n CLO 92-94)

4) Get the $550 custom set from http://www.dougrippie.com/drm/engine_components.htm (p/n 30-135)

That's what I've come across so far for us pre-'95 guys. Hope this helps to some degree...

Based on those prices, if it was me, do the 95+ (vented too) Opti conversion, Run a Cloyes 3145 double roller, and CSI electric water pump.
