Sorry about the unhelpful last post.

From reading the boards here I have deduced that it takes a lot of time, especially the first time, and that the passenger side is far more difficult than the driver's side. Like 1/3 of the engine is undr the cowl and this is what makes it tough. Gm techs are apparently told to remove the Y-pipe underneath and supposedly that makes all the plugs very easy to reach, but might be tough if you don't have access to a lift or at least a garage and some tools.

You can do it from the top though. Besides the cramped nature of it, it is just like changing plugs on every other chevy v8 though. I recommend a pair of mechanix gloves to make sure you *dont* get such bloody hands. It also helps if you have skinny arms.

I just dropped some change to buy a set of NGK Iridium plugs so that I don't have to change mine for another 100k miles...

i have some questions about this, no point in starting a new thread.

you said GM techs remove the ypipe, well I have noticed that would be a good way to go about it. Would I need any gaskets for bolting the y-pipe back up?

Nope no gaskets. Its just a 3 bolt flange. You might want some PB Blaster (or WD40) to help get those bolts loose, if you haven't already. An impact wrench comes in very handy.

changing plugs is pretty simple, the wires is a little bit harder. when i still have my stock manifolds, i changed my sparkplugs with a friend. it was so much easier with two people. change the wires one by one, so you dont get confused

Some people on here just want to get you ready for a tough job and it is a tough job.
You will have to attack some of them from above and some are easier from below.
It is tight in the 4th gen engine bay especially if you still have AC air pump, EGR, etc. I removed all these things from my car so it would be easier to work on.
The first time I did plugs and wires on my 94 it took me 2 days.
Once I got the hang of what I was doing I can do it in about 3 hours.
With LT headers I can change the plugs in about 25 to 30 minutes.
Just take your time and if you run into a problem post on here and we will do our best to help you out.
