time for a new catback

OK guys i was wondering why my exhaust is so damn loud and i just went under there and found out..i started it up cold and its cold in my garage and looked under the car to see the hot exhaust pouring out of the back end of my supercat...lots coming out at that spot and a little out of a hole next to the muffler and little out the tip...i figured the cap/gasket to the 3" cutout wasnt a tight fit and was making it loud but no..i guess its time to cut off the entire catback..im going to keep the 3" supercat and still want to run the 40 series flowmaster b/c of it unbelievable rumle ive come accustom to...

what catback should i get..i know i want 3" and i dont want to pay out the ***...suggestions? Thanks im psyched b/c this flowmaster catback has been on there for like 7 yrs and is getting rusty.

keep in mind im keeping the 40 series muffler and supercat

btw...my current setup is MAC 1 5/8 mids to MAC 2.5" y pipe to 3" cutout b4 3" supercat and 3" flowmaster catback with 40 series flowmaster muffler and single drivers side oulet.

Re: time for a new catback

i have narrowed my search to 2 catbacks

Hooker (with the aero chamber muffler)
or
SLP Loudmouth(whats with that resonator?)

both are 3" and both have dual tips but the loudmouth has 3.5" tips as the hooker has 3" tips

what to get? ahhh?

hooker and LM are halfway down (the LM says its only for LS1 but that fits on a 94 single cat LT1 correct?)

Re: time for a new catback

How're you gonna run both the 40 Series and a Loudmouth or Hooker at the same time?

Hooker sounds pretty good, by the way.

for the LM u need to buy the intall kit for LT1s comes with new hangars, the sigle catt one is more expensive cuz of some extra pipe
forget about the 40series muffler , if u are gonne get a new cat back , hooker sounds good or even better than teh flowmaster and magnaflow also

BTW im not trying to mock flowmaster its just a personal opinion

heres where im at..
hooker...hear its a good system but dont want the little tips they have for them (i guess i could just not put them on there)
Loudmouth...would sound sick with my setup (but whats with that resonator tube?)

Re: time for a new catback

so i take it the loudmouth does not have a muffler (and that resonator tube along the pipe serves as the muffler)

while the hooker comes with the aero chamber muffler? is this correct

Im thinking the hooker might be a better choice..

but how would the hooker sound with my MAC headers and y pipe and 3" cutout/3" supercat? I dont exactly want quiet..i want mean but not annoyingly mean

Re: time for a new catback

I've got the loudmouth on my car it sounds great. The resonator is pretty much a bubble in the pipe theres nothing in it lol (have a pic of the inside if you want pm me). The install kit includes an s pipe to make it mount up which is why its usually more expensive. But ls1speed only charges $30 instead of the normal $70 mine came to around $380 shipped great deal came quick. Like I said it sounds great it rumbles and its nice just cruising and it gets LOUD when you get on it. Ive heard it gets pretty mean with some headers, and that its best to keep the cat because deleting it makes it sound bad

Re: time for a new catback

heres the thing though...i have a high flow cat which is just like no cat so im worried it will sound bad....can you send me a pic of the entire catback?

im thinking that my mac headers to mac y pipe to 3" cutout to 3" supercat to LM will be a obnoxious ugly sound.....yes or no???

Re: time for a new catback

one thing to consider is that the LM is stainless and the Hooker is aluminized. either would be a good choice, but many dont like the sound of the LM with their long tubes. i see you have mids, so id imagine theyd help keep the tone down a but over long tubes.

many people have had good luck with replacing the LM resonator with a Bullet muffler or even a Borla sportman muffler; it gets rid of the 'rasp'.

Re: time for a new catback

Yes thats everything I installed it myself took an hour, because I tryed to save the stock exhaust without cutting it. If you have a lift the exhaust will come off in one piece. Otherwise youll have to cut it or pretty much disassemble the entire passenger side of the rear suspension. Not worth it. The loudmouth however goes together easy, theres no reason to have someone do it for you, if you can work a socket wrench you can put this on lol.

If you have any questions about putting it on yourself Ill be glad to help.
