time for a change
guys i've searched and found not much as too very lil even though it's ask alot
i've put headers: heads/cam swap and my borla sounds like crap
it's coming off and wondering what exhaust does the majority use with and cutout, i've yet to put it on b/c i didn't want to cut up the borla that i'm selling
the borla just i've been told by many that my car sounds like an indy car at high rpm...what is going to sound good and deep with the cutout as far as catback systems with hooker headers
is cheap like flowmaster good or corsa
i want to order it today so please let me know

Flowmaster
Magnaflow
GMMG
Duals
Hooker
SLP 2OTL or Quad with Muffler
Loudmouth
Mufflex
Random Tech
etc
All sound pretty good, but its personal preferance. If you run a more restrictive muffler run a cutout [Flowmaster/Hooker/etc] But a GMMG or LM wont need one. I have never like the way Borla sounds on an F-body.

Re: time for a change
so flowmaster, and hooker are pretty restrictive
what about the magnaflow or dynamax i was thinking about them
i don't want ANY high pitch noises like i get with the borla...i've always said i'd never buy another flowmaster but they really do sound good with a cutout, but i don't want to sacrifice any HP

Re: time for a change
Hooker, Flowmaster and every other crossflow muffler on the market it going to be about the same. They really cant compete with the flow of a open pipe like a LM/GMMG or Duals. Dynomax is more like a turbo muffler I think, Magnaflow in my opinion is better than Flowmaster, and probably about the same as Hooker. I think they both have the packing inside of them. Magnaflow is stainless steel unlike FM and Hooker.

Re: time for a change
Actually, the hooker is one of the free-est flowing crossflows on the market.
Theres a guy in the Forced induction section that made something along the lines of 580RWHP with one. Then he opened his cut out, and only gained 4-5RWHP. There is nothing wrong with the Hookers.

Re: time for a change
I have the Magnaflow catback and a cutout along with it. With the cutout closed, the exhaust if pretty tame, even with long tubes. With the cutout open, the car is louder, but nothing unbearable to the ears.

Re: time for a change
well i talked to a buddy up north and his car sounds really good and he has true duals with 40 series flows with it dumped right before the rear axle
you guys think that sounds like a good option b/c i have a torque arm i havent' installed b/c of the y pipe clearance and with that setup it would allow me to install it
where would you install the mufflers...right out of the collectors or in the back???

Re: time for a change
one more for Magnaflow here, Hooker LT's, 3" ORY, and Magna flow it definitely sounds amazing, and I get complements on the way my car sounds every day, the build quality is top notch, and its stainless steel so no need to talk about durability.
Re: time for a change
I second that, same setup here
Re: time for a change
I like the sound of two 40 series dumped before the axle. The only thing that I dont like about them is they backfire quite a bit on me. I however, am going to blame it on having to much exhaust for my application at the moment. This problem will be solved though very soon.
Anyway, it all depends on the sound you want. If you are a big fan of classic muscle car sound then true duals is the route to go.
Exhaust is an preference thing, you need to do research on what sound appeals to you the most. Also you want to match your desired sound level while cruising. Some don't like to think when they cruise, others like to appear stock.
Just make sure you listen to everything. I'd really be upset if I spent 400+ on something I didnt like to hear.

Re: time for a change
The raspy exhaust note after installing hooker LT's can be blamed mostly on using the type of Y-pipe needed to merge the two sides. If you want to stay through a single, full exhaust setup then the best way to combat the high sound is by getting a larger/longer muffler. That raspiness will always be there to some degree however.

I think i'm going with the duals
if injuneer is on here i really like his setup and would like to know what mufflers he's running and which size pipe...i'd say it's 3.5" but not sure, and looks like he has the same torque arm which won't fit right now b/c my Y pipe rubs so that would remedy that also
is there any type of prgramming as far as throwing out the left and right banks of the exhaust if you use no crossover pipe
injuneer if you read this and have a sound clip of that car running that setup would you please mail it to me mcnearc@yahoo.com
thanks guys
