Tightening the banjo bolts in back of the heads.

Appearantly I have sprung a leak at the banjo bolts in back of the heads. Initially I thought it was a head gasket but luckly is wasn't. Does anyone have a tip for tightening the bolt back there? How do you do it? Or do you.

Umm, you might have to pull the motor to do those bad boys. GM doesn't give you much room to work on. Especially since the motor is halfway under the cowl.

It can be done with the motor in the car, I pulled both of my banjo bolts out prior to my heads removal. I did have the intake manifold removed so I guess at worst you would have to remove that.

Jesus it's not that hard lol....

You might need to replace the little gasket washers though. It's a 15mm bolt, invest in a ratcheting wrench, makes it alot easier.

The replacement banjo bolts from GM are a lot better than the stockers.

I disconnected the driveshaft (4bolts), engine mounts (2 bolts), steering rack ( 2 bolts). Then I lifted and slid the motor forward. Made things a lot easier.

Seriously, there's some crazy advice being given in here... just reach back there and do it, there's PLENTY of room.

yeah there is more room than you think. Remove the driver side first, tht will release tention from the other side, and remove it. Each bolt uses two washers, numbers 12 and 30 on this diagram. you can also see what I was talking about undoing the driver side first. The thing is when I had to replace mine I had to drive to a bunch of different dealers to find one that had some, so call around. They are part number 10108689 and look like THIS. Just remember you need 2 for each head, but a good idea to replace all 4 while you are back there.

I will be needing the correct washers and such for when I remove the heads this winter.

Looking at the diagram, what is the diffrence between #12 & #30?
What is the difference in the bolts #31 & 32?

Does anyone have the part numbers for all these parts:
12
30
31
32

Thanks.

I didn't think so. All I need to do is tighten the one down on the passenger side. Do any of you think that the seals might be bad? They're brand new.

The seals should be fine, just hope you did'nt cross thread the bolt, when you put it in. That would cause a leak.
