Ticking noise

best solution to stop a ticking noise from a lifter??

just pull the intake, valve covers, rocker arms/push rods and replace lifters.
i have to remove my alternater to get passenger valve cover off.

if the "lifter" is confirmed...old school method pour a bottle of transmission fluid in it run it like most of these so-called majic fixer uppers do...like 10-15 minutes of idling then change oil and filter

after that most likely the lifter is fubar and never will quite down so replacement is needed
