tick tick tick stop

what would make a cars engine tick at higher rpms but it doesnt tick when it idles, and all of a sudden it goes away when it reaches operating temperature ??

Valve train issue. Could also be an exaust leak but from what you described the first thing that popped in my head was the VT.
