Throttle problem

My throttle has recently had a sticking/hesitation problem. For example, if I try to take it to redline in 1st, about 5k the throttle will stick, so when I go to shift, it hits the rev limiter when I shift into second, then in 2nd, it doesnt always pull as hard, and the throttle will still stick. If I shift at WOT say at 4500, it wont do it. I just replaced the TPS, it helped with response, but didn't help with the sticking problem. Any suggestions?

It doesnt do it at all, except at WOT in gear around 5k or so, and in the following gear right after the shift. It feels like it doesnt pull anymore when it does this. If I WOT to any lower RPM, or to redline in neutral with WOT, no sticking or hesitating at all.

I just cleaned the blades to make sure, they were still pretty shiny from a few months ago when I cleaned them/polished the TB. With my hand, the throttle opens and closes as freely as it always has. Still not sure what would cause it to feel like it is no longer pulling though?

Has been cleaned, still doing the same. I still don't understand how that would cause the sudden lack of power at the same time?

edit: I just tried the car in the rain, and with it spinning on the wet pavement, it had no problem up to rev limiter and going into 2nd. Tried it 3 times, couldnt get it to do it if I am spinning. I'm clueless.

hmm with it losing power when this happens, it makes me think it's not the actual pedal. loss of power is probably from a bad ratio of air/fuel caused by a device that feeds one or the other to be hanging somehow. IE if your pedal was sticking, you'd have full power i would think.

does sound weird - have you taken your tps off and looked at it? maybe it's stripped out or off or cracked or...?

check your TPS....you could actually have to much play in your throttle cable.... and also.. I couldn't quite understand what it is doing......my car seemed to be taking forever to want to shift.... like at WOT when I shifter to the next gear it acted like it didn't want to go in that gear..... everyone told me trans was shot....well I got new plugs and wire(they were still stock at the time!!!!) and the car ran like a dream didn't miss a lick.....no hesitation or anything now... and that was the last thing that I thought would make it do that..... hope that helps man,...good luck

Well the pedal isnt sticking anymore after cleaning thouroughly, however, I have the instant loss of power still. TPS is new. Do I have to have it scanned while driving at this point? What sensors to check with voltmeter if I can get ahold of one?

Re: Throttle problem

Mine does the same thing. It sticks if am giving the car hell and shift from second to third it bangs off the revlimiter and if I put it in third it still has power with my foot off the gas I had to pump the gas and breaks to make it stop. It scared the crap out of me. Anybody else have any ideas

Re: Throttle problem

Found my problem last night, the throttle wasn't actually sticking, the engine was being starved of air, the Fernco 90* elbow that I was using from the MAF to the filter in my CAI was collapsing at high RPM at WOT. I switched to a 3" exhaust turndown, modified it a little, polished it and now it runs better than it ever has.

Re: Throttle problem

Sounds to me that if your elbow was collapsing, you have a restriction at the beginning of your intake plumbing (filter maybe?). Your intake tract should flow well enough that there should not be any vacuum created in it.
