The idea behind it is you keep the hot engine coolant from running through your TB and heating it up which would effectively heat up the incoming air. You won't see much, if any gain from it

Since people like to quote this site for more costly mods that gain little but still use the single digit gains as "proof" they made a good choice I figured it would be fin to post it here.

To be honest 6hp sounds like a LOT I don't know that I believe the TB is that efficient a heat exchanger, BUT if you do this when you remove the TB for cleaning you get a very nice added benefit of making the car easier to work on and I do believe there is some small gain, just maybe not 6hp.

Did it on both of my 4th gens... never an issue even when driving home to Canada for Christmas
(well below 0) or various summer trips to Houston.

Can't say I felt any improvement in performance, but it's one less thing to deal with in the engine bay.

The heat hose in the TB is to avoid ice formation there, in long trips can be dangerous not to having it .

I think I remember Injuneer stating that there was a dyno proven 5 hp gain from it. However, like mdacton said...don't expect a seat of the pants gain.

I still like the idea of it. I done it to my Z28.

I hope you are not buying the kit to do this. Follow the instructions from shoebox's site http://shbox.com/1/tb_bypass.jpg and it can be done for free.

Its 6HP, and "96capricemgr" posted the link to the dyno test, 3 posts before yours.

There has been like no one ever reporting an issue with doing the bypass (even from our friends in Canada). GM has to provide for all contingencies in extreme weather. There just aren't that many situations that people are going to be driving their f-body cars in the conditions that might cause throttle icing. Now, when Ice Road Truckers start doing LT1 swaps, then there might be some concern.

But to be politically correct, do the bypass at your own risk.

Ditto... I've had mine removed for 12 years now, and have driven the car at 0*F with no problems. Its even harder to believe this is a problem/concern in "Guadalajara Jalisco Mexico".
