Smothing out air flow does help. Like in porting heads. Throttle body bypass helps reduce heat soak into the intake. So yes I would say do it. It's not going to give you 50 hp, But it's still better then not having it. Would reather get 3 or 4 hp with a couple of bucks. Every little bit helps when you don't have the cash that others have. Sometimes you have to think about it.

 

Do both, I got a Airfoil for $20, not a bad deal. Do a TB bypass too, its like $5 from Home depot.

T/B bypass is free. Just remove from t/b under intake and remove the hose completely from the metal line on the side of the manifold. Cut hose to size and install on metal line. Bam your done.

 

Wasnt the question is the airfoil worth it? not if the TB bypass was better? If your gonna get one for 20 bucks do it. Alot of people use them weather or not its going to net you anything noticlble probably not. But in theory it should do its job and provide smooth airflow into the intake. Try it. What are you really out 20 bucks. I use one on my 355 Ram Air. Dont know if makes a different or not but i still use it it sure didnt hurt anything.

 

Answer was do both. Like you said " It won't hurt anything." I said T/B bypass is free, and will help hp. Due to heat soak in the intake throttle body.

 

wouldnt it deffinately help if you were running a wet kit in the bellow to keep nitrous and fuel flowing smoothly?

this is with a ws6 so if you dont have an intake at least, then it wouldnt do as good... and as you can see at high rpm it free's up a good amount of power, appears to be around 6-8 hp upgrade at 6k.

 

TB Bypass is free for 95-7 but NOT for 93-4..
You need a 3/8" hose barb for 93-4 due to different hose configuration..
[unless you're like me and have 95-7 hose configuration on a 93-4.. ]
Not that a 3/8 hose barb breaks the bank, just thought it worth mentioning that 93-4 is not 'free'..

 

So you're saying there is no point to dyno anything with any mods because it is not accurate and the results will vary too much? If somebody builds a 396 blower motor with over $30k invested and it dyno's 1000 hp, you say it is not accurate and it is really only making 200hp because of the dyno variances? I know this example is a little exagerated but come on dude...get real. If the TB bypass has been dynoed 100 times and it shows 3-5 rwhp gain everytime, I would lean more on the side of technology and the equipment before i believed your theory that it can't be proven because of variances.

 

One time an airfoil comes in handy is if you're spraying nitrous. It can help smooth the flow of nitrous and fuel into the TB rather than hitting the flat face between the blades.

 

Most airfoils block off the PCV air feed from the TB.. Id rather have a working PCV system than 2 hp youll never feel.

 

The guy said a difference of 3-4hp, which could be due to anything from a squirrel farting in front of the car to an atom of water passing through the fuel injector. Where you get 1000hp/200hp is beyond me. His point is based on common sense and a basic understanding of the elementary fundamentals of engines.

Your point about multiple tests showing the same is well taken, but don't take the dude's words and twist them all around. You should know EXACTLY what he's talking about with the level of knowledge you suggest with your post.

 

He said it was exaggerated, so where do you get off correcting him? He knows it isn't that extreme, he's just trying to make a point.
