Re: threw a rod tonight....

You cannot put the pistons in from below, unless you machine the humps out of the block, would be a trick.

Re: threw a rod tonight....

well talked things over with the dad tonight, we are going to be pulling the engine,,
for a 396 kit i need to have my block bored correct?
for a 383 stroker kit i just need to get a kit?
i would like to go 396 but don't want to have my block bored.
well, after this little project, the car is going from an everyday driver to a weekend warrior, so it will be getting a much larger cam.

what kind of hp can i expect with a 383 stroker bottom end?
what kind of hp gain will i see from a 383 to a 396?

the car should be arould 370-390 rwhp as is,
fully built top end w/ a stock bottom end.

thanks again for the help, as some of u may know, these are tough times...

Re: threw a rod tonight....

For the traditional 383 you'll need the block bored .030. but they make a new crank with a 3.8 stroke that will make a 383 with the stock 4.00 inch bore, GMPP has the pistons and the crank. (I beleive the crank is made by Cola)

With close to 11:1 compression and some good flowing heads and a proper cam you can expect 420 plus RWHP and alot more torque.
