Thoughts on Unique Ram Air design

Well wondering off the way my mind usually does, I thought of a mod that will benefit Camaro Owners in two ways. I want to do a Ram Air mod to the bottom of my drivers side, cutting open a hole in the air damn, and making a shute up into where the CAI filter lives.

Already been done you say? Well how about Ohio has this terrible Front Plate law, and it makes your car look fugly. I want to mount the plate in front of the Ram Air hole to act as a slash gaurd for when it rains.

"But Dustin" you ask, "How is the air getting in?" Well the plate will be attatched to the top of the air damn with some spring loaded hinges. This will leave the Ram Air open while eliminating the unsightly front license plate. The plate will have the ability to a pulled down into place for a splash gaurd manually thanks to a cable somehow rigged into the cockpit and locked in place by something or other, that's yet to be designed.

The best part is when you get pulled over for no front plate (like I have) you will just have to unhook the locked cable and BAM! your making Smokey look like a damn fool. Aint that a Sumbich?

Lets hear what you think and if you have any design improving ideas.

It will be mounted somewhere under the dash out of sight. Sorry folks, I have to do it, if you where there when I got pulled over, you'd be thinking of a way to make the bastard look like an *** too.

Souds like you have more in mind than just cooler air to the filter.
It can be done though without so much work and the front plate can still be used.
But it sounds like you want to mess with the man ( we all do to some extent ) so go for it.

Having made a fresh air scoop for my CAI, here's my take: Ram air doesn't make enough hp difference to justify investing a great deal of cash or effort in building something. And having a spring loaded license plate thingy is asking for trouble.

Re: Thoughts on Unique Ram Air design

Well, I am also asking for trouble with no cat, no egr, no AIR, loud exhaust, speeding, and not having my plate on the first time. So I say what the hell, its all in good fun. I know its not worth alot of power if any, but I would like my CAI to be more functional with colder air. Just figuring I am knocking out two birds with one stone here. Thanks for the comments everyone. I already found some nice spring loaded hinges and such at Home Depot, now its on to the retracting device/cable.

If the plate is up I can see it catching wind and creating noise, vibrations, and maybe other problems. Cool idea though.

Why not just have some weak springs that hold it down when you are going slow, but when you are at highway speeds teh wind will push the plate up?
