Thoughts on a Dual Exhaust set up?
Thoughts on a Dual Exhaust set up?
Ok, i went to a local exhaust shop today for a quote on a dual exhaust setup for my car. $180 for labor and piping. I'll bring in my own mufflers. Question is, should I go with Bullets, seeing as theres really not much space? And if so, do you think theres enough space for 2 bullets on each pipe somewhere down the line? I also want the pipes to come out the back. How loud is that gonna be, ya think? Not that I'm really worried about noise, but, I was also thinking about dual cutouts. If it's gonna be loud anyways, might as well save money and forget those. Any thoughts/suggestions/gripes/complaints or ideas? Thanks in advance.

I assume you have lontube headers..if not some things may not be relevant. Anyhow you will need reducers if you are going with less than 3 inch pipe. You will also need turn downs(tips) and a x-pipe or h-pipe.
Your shop may have all this in stock, I'm just going from my experience.
If you don't use an x or h pipe you might as well just run open headers. I personally would recommend an x-pipe, but that is your own choice.
Ground clearance may be an issue, depending on your cars height. If its done right there shouldn't be any problem with stock height. I have a M6 and I had to grind the lip on the tranny crossmember so the pipe(drivers side didn't bang)
As far as noise goes, its not that bad, I don't see the need for two mufflers in one pipe, nor do I think there is room. With duals there is no need for cutouts either if you just looking for sound, its plenty loud enough. But then again if you looking for extra performance you could put in 2 cutouts for the track or whatever, but it will hinder you ground clearance even more.
There are many ways to do this and many different opinions, this is just my experience. You can check out my pictures of install/parts here...page 5 I believe.

I went with 2.5 mainly for options on getting it done. Around here there was only one place that did 3 in, and I didn't trust them to do my setup. You will save some rooom but not much....I would go with the 3in if it will work all the back.

I have 3" bullets with 2.5" X pipe. My true dual setup cost $210 in the end. He charged me $130 to make an x pipe and for labor and I paid $80 for the Bullets...so after all was said and done, my true dual bullet setup was 210.
Your gonna have to go with 2.5" if you wanna bring it out the rear. 3" is just to big to clear everything. Have the guy get under there and look at it first before he starts in on it. If he hasn't done this before, he could really screw things up on a 4th gen.
I've got duals w/o xpipe dumped before the axles and it cost me $80 counting pipe, welding, and installing o2 bungs
