Thoughts on bigger stall (3800-4000) with smallish gear (3.73's)

Anyone have a 3800-4000 stall car with a smallish gear in the back like a 3.73?

What kind of 60's are you cutting and how rough is the car to drive on the street. Looking at picking up a tranny off a member here and I'll need to get my converter freshened up so I might as well get it restalled while it's there for my LE3 powerband.

I have a 3200 stall with 3.73's right now, and it's fine.

I probably won't be picking up a 12 bolt until sometime later next year, and that will have 4.11's or 4.30's in it, so it'll be a temporary thing.

ive been in a car with 3.73s and i think a yank 4k. it ran/drove great. i'd ask around the ls1 section, alot of those guys run bigger verters all the time.

Thought it really depended on your cam range as well. I'm looking into a 3600-4200.

You might as well go with the bigger stall, espesially if your planning on the 4.10 twelve bolt within a year or so. I like my 3600 but it a 3800-4 would probably work better and im pretty sure your cam is bigger than mine.

Javier, most of the TC companies have a Tech Line that can probably give you some good advice on what to use, based on your setup and intended application.

Javier, your new cam likes converter. A 4000 stall will work really well with it and better than the 3200.

I'm going with a Yank4000 with 3.54's. LS1tech has some really great info and threads about it.

Allright.. that brings up my next question.. how efficient is a Vigilante at that high a stall speed compared to a Yank.

Can of worms opened!

My vigilanate stalls to right at 4100 on the brake(4000 stall). I figured my effeciency to be 92.5% at 6500 rpms with 3.73 gears. Now, with the nitrous I was seeing about 22% slippage at the same rpm.

I wouldnt mind hearing feedback on this. Plus hearing what n20fed said about 22% on juice makes you wonder. What is that 4000 flashing at with the juice?

Javier I know you like your Yank better...
