Those of you without front swaybars...

OK, for those of you that have removed your front swaybars for drag racing, I have a question for you. I am going to take mine off today and try it out going slow around town. But, I'm not sure about the expressway. Is it much different going 70 mph or so on the e-way? The nearest drag strip is about 25 minutes away, and I don't want to wait til I get there to take the swaybar off. So, should travelling the e-way be fine as long as I'm careful on the on and off ramps?

It's going to be a real shock to you once you hit the road; it really will. You'll start to not even notice it after awhile, though. I've had mine off my car for over a year now, and it's my daily driver. It will handle like a boat, but will still handle. Just take it easy on offramps, etc.

I've had mine off for over a year now. It makes no difference driving around town but you won't be able to take curvy freeway exit ramps at 90mph anymore. as RamAir said, eventually you won't notice not having it anymore.

I have to agree. I took mine off last year, and I couldn't really tell that much of a difference. It doesn't break loose or anything around curves. I was just as skeptical as you are, but really, it is worth it I gained .2 by taking it off at the track

You will love the difference. Just be careful, but soon, you will forget it's off!

is that .2 off the 60ft? Can removing a sway bar yeild those kind of results on an average basis? Just curious, been thinking of the same thing, but I was unaware that i could see that significant of a gain.....

Mine has been off for a while and i notice no difference and it has not slowed me down around town at all.

The biggest gain is from the weight removal.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'll definitely be taking it off in the near future.

Yeah, I'm going to move my battery to where the spare tire used to be too. Hopefully it helps out

I had ET streets on, and skinnies up front. When I removed the bar, I got a 1.5 60' and incredible lift in the front. I have a couple of pics of it at home. That was also w/ the hotcam kit, a stall and gears A nice 7.7@86!

Why? Sure the weight is off the nose but adding all the wire and other stuff that is needed negates the move. I say get a light weight battery up front and go that route. You will be adding a good 10+#s to the car moving the battery. Lightweight upfront will save you 20#+.....not to mention the posibility of not getting full charging....i have a whole list of negatives...

so on average what would you gain from removing the sway bar in terms of 60' and 1/4? for example my car is hardly modded but i am getting some et streets, would removing the sway bar help out also? i am shooting for a 13.5-13.6@102, is this right on track with my mods plus removal of the sway bar and slicks???

I drive mine everywhere without the sway bar. I took it off almost 3 years ago. It doesn't handle like it used to, but I think some of that may be attributed to the M/T wrinkewalls, and 3 1/2" front Weld Wheels with 165-15 tires.
With a completely stock LT1 with exhaust manifolds, stock suspension (with front sway bar removed), 3200 stall ProTorque converter, 4.10 gears, and 26"x10.5" ET Streets...I went a 12.82 @ 105.9 MPH with a 1.73 60 FT. time. Yes, that's with stock springs, shocks, torque arm, lower control arms, and no relocation brackets.

My swaybar has been off since April and is sitting right next ot my car in my garage right now. Yeah the front end is a little loose and you definitely notice when you take it off. Eventually like everyone says, you dont notice anymore. Yeah you know its not there but never think about it because the car feels "normal" again like it did with the swaybar. Theres no ill effects, plenty of people I know dont have their front swaybar on. Expressway driving is no different than before either.

Yeah it definatly makes a difference hooking up. You can notice the weight transfer alot more. It does make a difference in turns but only at moderate to high speeds, slow turns arnt really affected. On high speeds going straight I dont notice a difference. But if your doing it to save weight dont waste your time it only weighs 10-15 pounds, which wont make any difference at all. Im going to be putting mine back on next year because I want to have a good all around car and It feels alot safer having it on in turns.
