those who jack up the front in the center

The nearest jackpoint that looks good to me in the front is a black bar (crossmember?) and its too far back so that i cant move the handle on my floor jack up and down cuz the bumper gets in the way.

Is there a good place closer the front that I am not noticing or do you guys drive up on blocks first to raise the bumper a bit? I can jack one side at a time, its just that ive heard of people jacking from the center.

Re: those who jack up the front in the center

2 options for you:
  1. Push the jack under the front crossmember with the handle sticking out diagonally, so it is under one of the headlights. This will allow the handle to clear the wind deflector.
  2. Jack up one side at a time, using the frame rails right behind each front tire

This is assuming your car isn't lowered.

I use 2 floor jacks each behind the front tires on the frame... ~3 pumps and switch...

I jack driver's side frame rail, then put a stand under where the front k-member bolts to the body on that side. Then there is enough clearance so I can jack the front crossmember.

Just drive it up on ramps first and then if you need more room to work with the jack has plenty of room to work.

If i need to jack in the middle by the crossmember I jack up eash side and put a block under each wheel. Gives me a few more inches so i can put the jack straight under and get the car in the air.

Heh. I have 2 jacks, one to jack my car up so I can get my jack under it......

I have a smaller one I use on the side under the Double Diamonds, this will lift it up enough to get my big floor jack under the crossmember.

Im right there with ya. I bought a small jack recently but before, I had to jack up the rear of the car and put it on stands just to be able to get the big jack under the side of the car. Sometimes its not worth being lowered and then I look at my car and everything is better.

I wouldnt trust the engine crossmember to support that weight. Thin metal and flemsy. Maybe if you had a way to spread the load.

I drive up on 2x12's and then I angle the jack so that the handle clears the air dam. It's slow going at first, but I have just enough room to get it started.

I just use a 1/2" drive by 10" extension in the jack until it is up high enough to use the actual handle...works pretty good for me. By the time it is up high enough to become hard to operate the car is up high enough to use the actual handle.

Didn't think to mention that my jack handle comes out...not a full sized shop floor jack with a fixed handle.
